Meeting social and sign-in 0930.

Chapter President Ray Ballantyne called the Membership Gathering to order at 1000 at Sequim Valley Airport, hangar #15.

Ray led The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag with 34 members and 1 guest attending.

Ray Ballantyne reported that Dave Miller asked for more info for local support of scholarships.

Aiden Lara is ready for and expecting his private pilot checkride very soon Gunner Rogers is scheduled to take his private pilot practical written exam on July 11 There has been ongoing contact with Sequim Valley Airport board of directors to discuss our request for a land lease for a chapter facility and response from the SVA board.

We have received our 2023 banner for being an EAA Gold Chapter. The banner is displayed on the east wall of the hangar where we’re meeting today. (Thank you Bud Davies for sharing your space with us all!)

Erik Petersen reported that chapter membership stands at 102 paid members, with the “sliding window” for new members at 17. The chapter continues to grow.

The chapter treasury funds have approximately - $6k scholarship, $146 building, $6k checking.

The Sequim Valley Airport tetrahedron is working. The final task is paint. Harry Cook has generously volunteered to take on that task.

Barry Halsted reported that the June fly-out to Friday Harbor attracted 9 airplanes and 15 folks.

Saturday July 20 the fly-out will be to Mears Field (3W5), Concrete, WA - to correspond with their annual airport fly-in that weekend. This will be one of the airports for our poker run. Chapter 430 members should expect to see an email about that very soon.

Gordon Tubesing took a few moments to tell us about Airport Appreciation Day at Diamond Point - Saturday August 10th, from 1000 to 1700. Fly-in pilots must fill out a Ray Ballantyne reported that the SVA board has made EAA Chapter 430 a land lease offer. The building committee (currently Barry Halsted, Harry Cook, Richard Howell and Ernie Hansen) is working to review the offer and determine next steps.

New Business:

Ray reminded us that Sequim Valley Airport - Air Affaire is Saturday August 24. Several chapter members are planning to attend AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI - Ray and Lisa flying in their GlaStar. Richard and Mary Ann Howell flying in their Sling 2. Barry and Tracy Halsted will make the trip commercially. Carl Peecher is making the trip too.

Young Eagles - our next rally will be Saturday, July 13 at Wm. R. Fairchild Airport (KCLM) in Port Angeles. So far, 6 pilots have signed up - including a helicopter. More pilots are needed. Please consider volunteering yourself and your airplane for this and future events.

Flying Start - there are still a couple of Eagle Flights that need pilots. (Erik Petersen has one flight scheduled next Saturday). Step up if you can.

Member Dave Boerigter has sold his Mooney. ☹️ He has some “free stuff” for those who are interested. Also, Dave has a Dynon Pocket Panel available. Please see Dave.

Madeline Patterson has graduated from U.N.D. and spoke to us briefly about her time at university and her application to the U.S. Coast Guard officer program.

He estimates 3+ years to go! o Harry Cook - Sonex Waiex B o James Russell - Cozy Mk IV, plans in-hand 24 years o Collette Miller is selling her Citabria as a “project” to make room for her Sonex build. She’ll be working on the wings next. Colette also has acquired an RV-4 o Dave Gardner is reworking his Kitfox III o Carl Peecher is doing some work on his yellow GlaStar o Student Pilot Aidan Lara recounted his recent solo pilot in command (PIC) handling of his real - loss of power emergency - that ended very well, with his exceptionally smooth landing and managing to taxi clear of the runway at Sequim Valley Airport. o Norm Nelson shared that his son Nathan has begun his participation in the youth mentorship program at the Port Townsend Aero Museum. Today’s presentation by Chapter member Scott Alair, about the building of his Lancair Legacy and then, adventures flying cross-country with his wife and son. Scott recounted, along with an excellent slideshow, his exciting experiences flying his 290+ mph machine in the 2005 & 2006 Reno National Championship Air Races! (secretary’s note: Oh so cool! Wow!!) Burger Bash - Yet another wonderful lunch was hosted by Kevin and Charlene Tracy, along with Dave and Joan Miller and others. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!! A “traffic in sight” reply to ATC must be based on seeing an aircraft “out-the-window”, not on the cockpit display.
