David received his Master Pilot award at the September 2024 EAA430 Gathering. Although he joined the Air Force as a navigator in 1956 and served with air refueling and Arctic resupply, he didn’t start flying on his own until he soloed a J3 Cub in 1959. In 1966, he got his private pilot license at the Bunker Hill aero club. While assigned to Montreal Canada in 1973-74, he was flying a Cherokee, Twin Comanche, Aztec, and Super Musketeer and received his commercial, multi engine, with instrument rating. His only incident was a catastrophic engine failure in the Musketeer which resulted in a forced landing. He went on to fly in Australia and own a Mooney M20C for almost 30 years. His wife Barbara joined him for the ceremony.
