EAA 430 FLYER Serving Northern Olympic Peninsula JUNE 2025 From the Left Seat With President Ray Ballantyne What great flying weather we’ve had! I hope you’re out commi8ng avia9on during these nice days. If not, I hope you’re doing what you can to soar above the horizon soon. The first chapter Young Eagle rally will be in the books by the 9me you read this. I trust we impacted a lot of youth*. The coolest thing is one of our former Young Eagles and recent Ray founda9on scholar is joining us as our newest young Eagle pilot. Way to go Gunner Rogers! Another young eagle graduate giving rides is Aiden Lara. And watch out for our current Ray scholar, Jazmin Stamper who has started her flight training. We had a very successful fundraising dinner, and the building commiNee is back to nego9a9ng land leases at either W28 or KCLM. More to come. My son Dan flew his Sportsman up from Dallas recently and we’ve enjoyed flying to FHR, TIW, and RNT.He’s also been very helpful fixing my new avionics woes. We recently shot the RNAV – GPS RWY27 approach at Pt Angeles and watched the autopilot do the whole thing including ver9cal naviga9on. It’s preNy amazing. Now it’s 9me to go camping in the mountains. I’ll miss you at the June Gathering as I’ll be in the Idaho backcountry. Wishing you blue skies and tailwinds! We sure did - over 50 took flight on Young Eagles Day!! Sincere thanks to all volunteers and pilots!! You make a difference!

June 10 Fly-Out to Tacoma Narrows I woke up to a sunny morning sky, perfect for our June flyout to Tacoma Narrows with a 12:15 lunch at The Hub restaurant. Seven people had advised they would par9cipate but the day was so gorgeous I advised the restaurant we would likely have ten or so arriving about 12:15. I sent out the e-mail confirming the flyout was on, and then another no9ng the airport’s Vintage Air Museum would be a great stop aier lunch. Then I found that the museum was open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Oh well. The flight was smooth and people in our group began arriving about 11:30. The Hub is located next to the tower and I had advised plenty of parking would be available right there. The first four aircrai parked without difficulty but more followed and the next row brought out personnel from the adjacent facility which apparently did not want people parking there; they had reserved that area for aircrai that might visit their business. I found out later that the tower told our guys trying to park there that such parking was not permiNed. And even more of our guys were arriving. Oh well. We shoved airplanes in places that required sequencing for taxiing aier lunch. In total twelve airplanes with 18 people aNended this flyout. So much for my asking the restaurant to plan on sea9ng for ten… They had set us a table. So we arrived and took photos and headed for food. ScoN Alair saw tables outside the restaurant and a quick change was made. The temperature was perfect, food was great and the service was excellent. The social aspect of these gatherings is a lot of fun and this day was excep9onal. We had members from EAA Chapter 430, two pilots from other areas who regularly join us, and neighbors and guests, too. ANending were Pat BarreN (from Bremerton), Ken Brown with his neighbor Clif, Dave Gardner with his wife Karen, Jeff Smith (who gave a ride to Sid Vandiver), Richard Howell with his friend Rob, ScoN Alair (who had offered to bring someone needing a ride but other rides had accommodated), Rick Stoffel, Harry Cook, Ray Ballantyne (with his son Dan). Tim Alen9ev came from the Norman Grier airport across the Sound brought a friend (Vinnie) who spends 9me working for Van’s Aircrai in Oregon and the Philippines. And me. I came with an empty seat which I offered but others had accommodated. Bud Davies arrived late having come from work. With lunch over three of us taxied down the field to the Avionics Shop (yup, that’s its name) for some transponder certs and other issues. As usual they provided excellent service and soon we were all on our way. Page 5 EAA 430 Flyer
