EAA 430 FLYER Serving Northern Olympic Peninsula JULY 2025 From the Left Seat With President Ray Ballantyne Hello all you avia+on enthusiasts! It’s been a great flying month for us. Lisa and I met up with our son Dan at Moose Creek Idaho for three days and nights in the wilderness. Then we crossed the Idaho mountains to Big Creek for a night in the lodge. The next day we flew down the Sawtooth Mountains to Smiley Creek where we joined around 30 Glastar/Sportsman airplanes and about 60 people for several days of local flying and a fun get together. The Building CommiIee has been working with the Port of Port Angeles and the Sequim Valley Airport board and are evaluaNng our lease opportuniNes. Things are sNll moving along, and Ernie Hansen just sold Rick Vaux’s Dream Classic for $4,000 which makes Rick’s donaNon to the building fund at $14,000! Thanks so much, Rick We just got back from the Arlington Hometown Fly-in where we met up with several chapter members. There are several more exciNng opportuniNes coming up in the near future. Of course, AirVenture at Oshkosh will be held between July 21 and the 27th. Lisa and I will not be aIending this year. Our July flyout will be to Concrete for their Old Fashioned Fly-in. Some members are already planing to spend the night. August 9th will be Diamond Point Airport AppreciaNon Day, Unity of Effort Day, and EAA 430 will join three other local chapters at an AviaNon Swap Meet at Bremerton Airport. So, if you would like to gather up all the aviaNon stuff you would like to sell, plan to bring it to Bremerton (or find someone to take them). And finally, get ready for the big poker run that’s coming in August and September! There will be big prizes and an exciNng poker game at the Gathering in September. May your days be filled with CAVU, Ray

Nathan was sponsored at the NaNonal EAA Air Academy by EAA430 where he celebrated his 14th birthday.

Page 6 EAA 430 Flyer Friends, Thought you would like to know that Deanna, my Wife and fellow EAA 430 member, got across the finish line last night here at Felts Field aner a grueling race from Fairhope, AL. She masterfully flew the only taildragger in the enNre all-woman race of 50 crews across the US! It was very grueling, Deanna completed it in 2 days out of the allocated Nme of 4 days!! While sick! And if sick wasn’t enough, the turbulence, heat and bad weather at the start of hurricane season flying across the states was hell for her. I am so very proud of our liIle EAA 430 member, my Wife, crushed it! Wondering if she is the first ever from our chapter to compete in this historic, presNgious race? Join me in congratulaNng her, I am so, so very proud!! Deanna’s email: otmdbender@gmail.com Many Thanks, Carl Hicks 253 · 219 · 6065 Another Score for an EAA 430 Member For more info, see AIRRACECLASSIC.ORG

A printed copy of the roster is at the sign-in desk. Please check your roster lisNng(s) for correct informaNon and photo(s) you’re happy with. Please work together with Tracy if changes are needed. ● Build and Fly: Richard Howell - Richard admiIed conNnued foot-dragging on coming up with a new 2025 program. He promises to send out an email to a list of those who’ve expressed interest at our Young Eagles events and independent inquiries. The email will propose 2 or 3 ideas for focused events and then react based on feedback. ● Young Eagles: Bud Davies - Bud discussed the possibility of using a “private sign-up link” on the EAA registraNon site that will hopefully allow us to focus outreach and response to and for our local community rather than all of SeaIle and surrounding areas. We’ll distribute adverNsing cards with a QR code that will take you right to the registraNon page for our event. o EAA 430 flew 62 kids for our June event. Many thanks to the 11 pilots, including 4 from EAA Chapter 84, who volunteered their Nme and aircran to make it happen! ● Fly-out: Barry Halsted - June’s desNnaNon was Gig Harbor, Tacoma Narrows (KTIW) with 12 planes and 18 people aIending. We apparently triggered a parking conundrum for a local FBO as they tried to ward us away from using their secret, unmarked parking ramp area. (Ask them how that went) Lunch was at the Hub and a fun Nme was had by all. o Poker Run Fundraiser - August and September. Get WPA stamps from any 5 of the listed airports to be eligible. Entry forms with the airport list will be made available. Entry fee. Prize donaNons. Stay tuned for more. o Our informal July flyout will be to Mears Field (3W5), Concrete, WA on Saturday the 19th, corresponding to their annual Old Fashioned Fly-In weekend - hIps://concrete-wa.com/events/concrete-fly-in/ ● Scholarship: Dave Miller - Dave presented Jazmin Stamper with her official leIer from EAA, awarding her 2025 EAA Ray FoundaNon AviaNon Scholarship.
Page 8 EAA 430 Flyer EAA Chapter 430 Membership Gathering Minutes, Con’t Old Business ● Building CommiIee - (Barry Halsted) ○ The condo hangars are no longer on the table. ○ A new building is a possibility at Port Angeles airport, inquiries are underway about what land lease situaNon could/would be. A number of posiNve items factor in - available electric, water and sewer service. The airport has anNcipated and planned for buildings outside the perimeter fence, adjacent to Gate 15, but sNll having direct ramp access. This might neatly solve access issues that would likely be somewhat challenging for other locaNons we’ve considered, including Sequim Valley Airport. ○ Sequim Valley Airport board has halted lease discussions, at least for the Nme being. Our board expects to reach out to the SVA board and aIempt to revive negoNaNons. There are some hopeful signs. New Business ● Charlene Tracy gave a shout out to Joan Miller, Richard Howell and other volunteers who helped with today’s food and refreshments. ● Diamond Point Airport AppreciaNon Day - Gordon Tubesing reminded us about their event on Saturday August 9th. Pilots planning to fly in, should please submit the Prior Permission Request (PPR) form and agreement online - prior to arrival. hIps:// 2wa1.org/arrival-ppr-2/ o The event will feature food - pulled pork and salad. o ColeI Miller will present a display of her artwork. o Flight demonstraNons. ● Arlington Hometown Fly-in - Dave Woodcock reminded us of the event - July 11-13, with special Friday and Saturday events exclusively for pilots and their guests. hIps:// www.arlingtonwa.gov/894/Hometown-Fly-In ● Sequim Valley Airport, Air Affaire - Emily WescoI reminded us about the Saturday, August 30 event - on Labor Day weekend. Always a fun Nme. hIp:// olympicpeninsulaairaffaire.com/ ● Projects o Harry Cook - Sonex Waiex B, fuel tank compleNon and riveNng closed the front fuselage area. o ColeIe Miller - Having some EarthX baIery issues with her RV-4 o Erik Petersen - completed an economical engine de-hydrator unit (dry-bot) and is happy to share the plans and process. (Possibly suitable for a program/ presentaNon?) ● The Business porNon of the gathering was adjourned at 10:42 ● The RestoraNon of Kiyox III, N996DG - Dave Gardner made a polished and entertaining presentaNon about how he managed to prolong his two week aircran restoraNon project to last more than a year.
