EAA 430 FLYER Serving Northern Olympic Peninsula NOVEMBER 2025 From the Left Seat With President Ray Ballantyne It’s always amazing how quickly the days pass in November and December. It’s also amazing how fast the annual holidays come up as we get older. But I love this time of year to be thankful and reflect on the events that took place in the past year. I’m so grateful for aviation and the magic of flying in my life - which has created so many friends, adventures, and memories. I’m also grateful for our EAA430 family who like to get together and will look after and help each other. I think our Flyouts, Gatherings, and Celebrations fall solidly in those categories. I look forward to the festivities at the Holiday Party on December 20! So let’s enjoy the ride of this life and spend it with others. Let’s inform and educate those interested in the joys and accomplishment of flying. We are currently working with the local Civil Air Patrol Squadron helping prospective young aviators work through the Sporty’s ground school they received by being a Young Eagle. And our Ray Scholar, Jazmin Stamper, recently passed her Private Pilot written exam and is preparing for a long solo cross country. That’s how we are keeping aviation vibrant on the Peninsula. We gather at Fairchild Conference Room this month on Saturday November 29 with a delicious breakfast casserole, pastries, and fruit starting at 0930. The presentation will be a surprise because it has yet to be determined. I hope to see you there. Let me be the first to wish you Happy Holidays!

Page 4 EAA 430 Flyer Rob Stephens, EAA430 member and new owner of a JMB VL3 airplane, gave an excellent presentation about his aviation history and experiences. He then described the journey he encountered buying a new light sport plane with a turbo charged Rotax engine that will provide for almost 200 mph. He highlighted his trip to Salt Lake City to pick up his new beauty and also talked about his recent trip to Garmin in Olathe, KS to attend their training. Here in this photo, he is describing the final assembly of his aircraft at the factory. Following his presentation, members were invited to check out the amazing airplane at the hangar next door. Thanks, Rob for such a great and informative presentation! October Presentation An inside look Parachute release A sweet ride from my nextdoor neighbor

Page 5 EAA 430 Flyer OCTOBER FLY-OUT ROCHE HARBOR By 21:00 on Sunday, Oct. 26th, the TAFs were looking good for the fly-out to Roche Harbor for Monday, Oct. 27th, so I sent out the “fly-out is on” announcement. By this time, I had 16 confirmed to attend. I called the Lime Kiln Café earlier in the day to advise them of our large group, but they said that a reservation wasn’t necessary, as the café is a cafeteria-style setup as first-come, first-served. On Monday morning, there were clear skies and calm winds over the peninsula and broken clouds at 1800’ over Friday Harbor. Victoria was clear, and so was Orcas, so I decided that the fly-out was still on. It was a beautiful, smooth flight over to San Juan Island, and it was visible that Roche was clear of clouds. Upon arrival, there was a group of aviators waiting with a few arriving shortly after. Myself, Sondra Pedlar (my mom), and Linda Priddle (Emily’s C172M), Bud Davies (C152), Scott Alair (Lancair Legacy), Richard Howell and Sid Vandiver (Richard’s Sling 2), Rob Stephens and Ernie Hansen (Rob’s VL3), Ray and Lisa Ballantyne, and Wells and Evangeline Hutchins (Ray and Lisa’s Sportsman), Cenk Özer and friend Scott (Linda’s C150J), and Barry and Tracy Halsted (their C172M). 17 people and 8 planes in total. After we took our group picture, we ventured down into town. The walk was a nice downhill stroll with great views of the harbor and the original Hotel De Haro. There were even a couple of people who called the hotel/resort to request a golf cart to meet us at the airport to be driven into town. After pushing a few tables together, it was great to get to socialize with everyone at lunch. It was also a treat to try the café’s homemade doughnuts and explore the original lime kilns. If you haven’t made it up there, it is worth it, especially this time of the year during the off- season. Don’t forget to explore the mausoleum. The flight home was smooth with clear skies and light winds. This was also one of our largest fly-out turnouts for 2025 and my first time acting as flyout coordinator. Thank you to all who attended! Clear skies and tailwinds, Aidan Lara

Most of our existing board members have agreed to serve again, for another 2 year term. There will be some switching of hats for Secretary, Scholarship, Newsletter and Website editors.
