Greetings Olympic Peninsula Aviators! Summer is here! The June Gloom has faded, and the beautiful days will show the Olympic Mountains in all their glory. Now it’s time to aviate to new or treasured locations around our beautiful nation. I’m looking forward to spending time in Idaho this month at some out of my favorite places. Although the forecast was for possible thunderstorms, the June 6 Young Eagle rally weather turned out better than forecast. You will see the report later on, but suffice it to say it was a fabulous event where many hands (and airplanes) made light work of a big event. It’s great to be part of an organization where so many people see a need and fill it. We’ve been thinking about our tool crib, and how to improve the process of providing important but seldom used tools for chapter members so they don’t have to be purchased unnecessarily. Vice President Ernie Hansen suggested and is putting together a “loan list” where members can list specialty tools that they would be willing to loan. That way we don’t need to have a place to store them. One of the most used items we have is the aircraft scales. Another tool that would benefit the chapter is a propeller balancer. We’ve investigated purchasing a first-class balancer and have gotten a 10% discount from the manufacturer. We can apply for a rebate from EAA National for a total savings of over $700. To raise the remaining $3700.00 for the prop balancer, we will have another fun filled Chili Bingo night on July 8 at the KCLM conference room at 5:30 p.m. We anticipate raising the remaining donations needed from those that get their props balanced. June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter The Olympic Field (WA45) fly-in is Saturday June 20. It will start at 10:00 a.m. with RAF donuts and coffee and a presentation by the RAF President at the south end of the airstrip. Lunch will be served at noon up at the Larrance’s house with live music starting at 1:00 p.m. We can all hope for good weather. Later in the day at 5:00 p.m., there will be a celebration of the life for Keith Kretschmer at Diamond Point Airport. I hope to see you at one or both events. I’ll miss being at the June Gathering on the 27th as Lisa and I plan to join the annual GlaStar fly-in at Smiley Creek, ID. At over 7000 feet elevation, it quickly reminds you to consider density altitude effects and taking extra socks for the chilly nights! Ernie Hansen will step in as Vice President for the meeting and our own Cecilia Aragon will provide the presentation on flying skills. Let’s go fly! Thanks to you all for coming and donating lots of fuel to fly our 55 Young Eagles! It is highly appreciated, and the kids had a great time. Attached is the pilot recap, showing the number of kids flown. What it doesn’t show is the number of flights by each pilot. On that, Steve Emley won with 5 flights, followed by a tie between Ernie and Erik with 4 flights each. Our next two events are July 11th and September 19th, both at PA again. Hope to see you there. June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter Let’s get right to it - Jazmin Stamper has earned her Private Pilot Certificate for Airplane Single Engine Land. With Jazmin’s hard work, the enthusiastic support of her parents and a boost from EAA Chapter 430’s mentorship and administration of EAA Ray Foundation Scholarship award funding, she has become the second of Ray Scholarship recipients to achieve this goal. Jazmin was part of EAA 430’s Build and Fly Program and also one of our Young Eagles. We’ll look forward to hearing more from Jazmin about her journey, sometime very soon. In the meantime, perhaps she can take a breather and see about getting her driver’s license. Congratulations Jazmin! June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter Anytime you can get 55 kids into the air, good things are going to happen. Our first rally of the year proved that to be true. Kids are thrilled. Parents are happy. Pilots and ground volunteers are pleased and relieved. A lot of things have to come together for a successful event and EAA Chapter 430 excels - neatly delivering a community service that has such positive impact on young lives. Local weather always plays a big role at Young Eagles events. Adapting to current conditions is important, because we don’t always get the ideal sunny S a t u r d a y w e h o p e f u l l y anticipate. June 6 provided some clouds, a bit of sunshine, a little breeze and even a few sprinkles. It all added up to a remarkably beautiful flying day. What a treat. Our pilot and airplane turnout was terrific. This is due in no small part to the persuasive charm of our Young Eagles Director, Bud Davies. In addition to several pilots who regularly volunteer, we had two pilots participating for their first time ever. It’s d e fi n i t e l y a worthwhile way to spend a Saturday. The next opportunity will be in July, so please let Bud know you’d like to pitch in to share your time and your airplane. As you might expect, kids bring their own level of enthusiasm for a flight. To many, it’s just an activity - something to do. Other’s seem to think it’s pretty cool and unusual, but perhaps not much beyond that. And then - there are those that click. We keep a sharp eye out, hoping to pick out the “right-seaters”, the ones who’ll get the most out of having a few moments at the controls - flying the airplane. We fortunately were able to identify An EAA 430 Young Eagles Rally Teamwork Ray Ballantyne kicks off our June rally
June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter several keen prospects and did our best to get them in the co-pilot’s seat for their flights. June’s rally went s m o o t h l y , thanks to the coordination of our experienced volunteers. We try to do three e v e n t s e a c h year, and for as long EAA 430 has been at it, it’s easy to see that practice pays off for the enjoyment and benefit of all. So the next time you see Tracy Halsted, Joan Miller, Bud Davies, Linda Runion, Kevin or Charlene Tracy, Alejandra Stamper, John Meyers, Norm Nelson, Harry Cook, or any of the EAA 430 Young Eagles Team - please take a moment to thank them for the hard work they put in to make these rallies a success.

June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter Ok, here’s a scene from our recent Young Eagles event. Fairchild Airport Manager, James Alton, is certainly in the middle of things, but there are plenty of other players in this picture. Your job is to come up with the best photo caption idea you can possibly imagine, and send it to webeditor@eaa430.org. Anything. The funnier the better. No slacking please. Let’s put some real effort into this. It’s a fine opportunity to think outside of the box. We absolutely can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. Look for a winner in next month’s newsletter. June 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter Once again, we grouped and aligned our chairs at Sequim Valley Airport and settled in to another of our pleasant summertime chapter membership gatherings. As usual, we had some highlights - including Dave Gardner reporting on his successful off-airport landing, when the engine in his 1948 Stinson 108-3 suddenly decided to call it a day. Our guest speaker, Rob Wells - attending his first-ever EAA Chapter meeting - shared details about how the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) works to protect irreplaceable airfields all around the country. Some results of these ongoing efforts have paid dividends locally at Olympic Field Airport (WA45), in the hills next to Discovery Bay. This private airfield is currently slated to be our June fly-out destination. More on that elsewhere in this newsletter. What chapter gathering would be complete without a bite to eat? Freshly grilled burgers were the order of the day, with everybody neatly lined up, just waiting to get their hands on one. Thanks everyone! Oh, and BTW - join us in June when Cecelia Aragon will tell us about Dancing with Gravity. May Membership Gathering Recap
