From the Left Seat Ray Ballantyne, President Hello fellow aviators! Due to the continued generosity of the chapter members, we are pleased to report that the board recently selected Gunner Rogers as our newest scholarship recipient. Gunner is currently attending the University of North Dakota and is rapidly acquiring his pilot ratings and licenses. This support will help him finish his college degree. And speaking of gaining aviation learning - we have a really nice simulator that was donated to the chapter last year. We were waiting to set it up in our new club house, but since that is taking longer than expected, we’re talking about getting it set up now and are exploring possible venues. Let me know if you have an interest in using the sim, and I’ll keep you informed of our progress. Thanks go to Barry and Tracy Halsted for all the work they do planning, preparing, and providing our chapter Poker Run. They spent a lot of time soliciting prizes and organizing the poker party. It was a great event that got many members flying to new locations. The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) is holding their biannual national education conference at the Museum of Flight in Seattle September 25-27. Being an RAF liaison for Washington State, I committed to helping the conference. Unfortunately, it will prevent me from being at the September Gathering. Vice President Ernie Hanson will be attending EAA Chapter 430 Serving Northern Olympic Peninsula September 2026 — Newsletter Chapter Membership Gathering Saturday, September 26 at 0930 Sequim Valley Airport, Hangar 15 (lunch) https://eaa430.org

September 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter the West Coast Swift fly-in, but we are fortunate to have Richard Howell stepping up to lead the group, followed by a fantastic presentation from John Norman of JNE Aircraft who built the most accurate, definitive reproduction of the 1927 Ryan NYP monoplane (Spirit of St Louis) which took over 12,000 hours. If you get a chance, you can see it on display at the Port Townsend Aero Museum. It is an amazing reproduction. I hope to see you at our last Young Eagles rally on September 19 at KCLM! — Ray August Gathering - Recap Turnout for the August EAA Chapter 430 membership gathering was enthusiastic. As usual, President Ray Ballantyne walked us through the business portion of the meeting with his purposeful flair and with the aid of a wearable wireless microphone, that worked like a charm. We then had the hand-held mic available to pass around for reports from our board members and introductions of guests and new members. Hilda Maurera, of the Seattle FAA Safety Team (FAAST), shared tips on “How to survive a ramp check.” This topic couldn’t help but generate some interesting discussions and viewpoints. We thank her for the insights that will no doubt be helpful for some of us, in the future. … The big news of the day was, of course, the culmination of our annual Poker Run, aviation scholarship fundraiser. This has proven to be a fun way for us to raise money to directly aid our young students with some of the expenses for their aviation-related studies. Hilda Maurera - Seattle FAA Safety Team (FAAST)

September 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter Chapter pilots are tasked with flying to at least five airports that are listed on the entry form. Washington State has a program that provides “passport” stamps at every airport. Each entry form gets stamped, to record an arrival. Five recorded arrivals gets you into the poker games, held at our August gathering. For the second year in a row, Aiden Lara and Emily Westcott registered their arrivals at all of the listed airports. Erik Petersen treated newly minted private pilot, Jazmin Stamper to share in the flying of Erik’s Cessna 172 so that they could log arrivals at a qualifying number of listed airports. Tracy Halsted has, once again, distinguished herself as our magnificent “dealer” for these fun games. Generous prize donations were awarded to the winners of each round of play. The event was organized by Barry Halsted. Lisa Ballantyne cheerfully Lisa and Tracy

September 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter assisted Tracy with the management of the games. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes and congratulations to the winners. The event raised $400 for our chapter’s scholarship fund. Prize winners were Richard Howell (hand played by proxy - Norm Nelson) and Dave Miller, for game one and John Meyers (hand played by proxy - Nathan Nelson) and Pat Barrett (chapter 406), for the second game. Top prizes included a fabulous self-care gift basket, a message package, and a hat with gift card for Peninsula Tap Room. We can hardly wait for next year! August’s Fly-Out Report Barry Halsted EAA Chapter 430’s August fly-out brought several airplanes and 15 adventuresome people to Orcas Island for a picnic! The weather was excellent except for smoke from the fires north of us. Once we arrived and posed for fly- out photos, we all sat at picnic tables and had a great time. The airport is popular, so we were able to watch airplanes that were not from our group, come and go. Most of our group arrived from Fairchild in Port Angeles, Sequim Valley and Blue Ribbon in Sequim. Tim Alentiev is a regular at our fly-outs and he comes from Crest airport on the other side of Puget Sound. Attendees were Bud Davies with Scott Brooksby, Scott Alair, Alan Millet, Richard Howell, Tim Alentiev, Mark Long, Emily Westcott, and her friend Jeff, Ken and Skip Brown, and me, Barry, with Tracy. Actually, Tracy and I came with Jazmin and Alejandra Stamper – Jazmin recently received her private pilot license and she flew the four of us in my Cessna 172. The fly-out offered people the choice of a picnic or a lunch at one of the restaurants in Eastsound. While all of us chose the picnic, nearly all of us also trekked into town after lunch for an ice cream desert. Skip and Ken Brown

September 2026 EAA Chapter 430 - Newsletter The walk is on a pretty trail through the wilderness and takes about 20 minutes. Tim knew how to access bikes at the airport so he rode rather than walk. We returned on different routes, so departure times varied slightly. Jazmin flew her three passengers back to Sequim Valley, providing Tracy, Alejandra and me with a pleasant airborne outing. The weather on the way back seemed not as smoky as earlier. Our next fly-out will be in September. I wonder where we’ll go? — Barry
