What We Do

What EAA Chapter 430 does all year

Monthly Chapter Gathering The last Saturday of each month except December, starting at 9:30 AM with social time and breakfast. Then there’s a short business meeting, member project updates, and a guest speaker or program. Open to everyone.

VMC/IMC Club

Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at Hometown Cafe in Sequim, for pilots who want to stay sharp. We work through real scenarios together, on visual flying (VMC) and instrument flying (IMC), using questions, short videos, and discussion. Recent topics included when to descend on an instrument approach and handling an in-flight alternator failure. Pilots of every experience level are welcome.

Young Eagles: free airplane rides for kids

Young Eagles is EAA's program for giving kids ages 8 to 17 their first ride in an airplane, completely free. Our chapter pilots fly Young Eagles at Fairchild Airport in Port Angeles a few times a year.

Learn about Young Eagles

Scholarships Since 2013 we’ve given scholarships to local students heading into aviation, usually one to three a year, including college students and A&P mechanic students. We also sponsor EAA Ray Aviation Scholars, who can receive up to $12,000 for flight training. Our first Ray Scholar, Gunner Rogers, has since earned his commercial pilot certificate, and our second, Jazmin Stamper, earned her private pilot certificate in 2026. Want to learn to fly? Every year we host Flying Start, a session that explains how to earn a pilot certificate and how to keep it affordable, ending with a free introductory flight. Check the Events calendar for this year’s date. Our members are always happy to talk with student pilots.

Flyouts, building, and fun Members fly together to other airports, help each other with builds and repairs, and keep a shared chapter tool shed (also called the tool crib). We also hold fundraisers like Chili Bingo to support chapter projects.
